On average, women are living longer than men by five to six years. By age 85 there are six women to every four men and by age 100 women outnumber men by more than two to one!So why do women outlive men? Scientists have not reached a unanimous conclusion. Some feel that women take better care of themselves by eating healthy, and smoking and drinking less, which translates to better health and longer life. Another theory is that women suffer from less stress and handle stress better. Some suggest that its because women are the primary caregivers for children. However, the most likely cause is biological.
Scientists have found that across almost all species, females live longest. They have hypothesized that this is because females are less disposable than males. The female body is needed for reproduction and needs to stay strong to produce healthy offspring.
